Adepticon 2022 - A Summary

Chandler and I went to Adepticon to play and playtest Project Phoenix for several days without interruption. While we did plan to publish Project Phoenix in the coming months, Adepticon was just for fun. That was our simple plan; play lots of games.

We initially set up a small fleet battle on one of the open play game tables where the battle raged all day, partly because we were pleasantly interrupted throughout the day. Amid all the Warhammer games around us, our starship battle garnered some welcome attention. Numerous people, young and old, came over to ask about our game. Learning that this was not a legacy game but a new and unique game system, many asked to receive email updates for the game. We began an email list to keep people informed about the final stages of the game's development.

We were happily surprised that these conversations continued through the weekend and resulted in several demo games with other starship combat gamers. Some said they felt like it filled a niche lacking in starship games currently on the market. Others liked the streamlined rules that allowed them to understand the game mechanics with a quick explanation. It had enough detail that starship captains had interesting decisions to make, but not so much that the rules were complex or time-consuming to learn. More importantly, there were lots of laughs, and people seemed to be having fun.

For now, I intend to update those interested players on the status of the game's development and possibly recruit some playtesters. The first major milestone is to make the game available on DriveThru RPG.
