Adepticon 2023 and New Expansions
May 17, 2023, UPDATE #13:
ADEPTICON 2023, Schamburg, IL
The Mariner Games team attended Adepticon this year to demo StarForce Commander. We had an excellent time teaching and playing SFC with everyone. Thank you to all who showed up, and we hope to see you again next year. Perhaps we can try the first annual StarForce Commander Tournament. Also, we'd like to thank the Adepticon organizers who gave us a great space to demo our game.
Our ultimate goal is to build a community of starship combat gamers, so please join us! The organizers at Adepticon are great and we plan to make the annual trip to Adepticon.
UPCOMING EXPANSIONS
Here is a short list of what we are working on and playtesting. We don't have specific dates yet, but we'll keep you informed. Let us know which expansion you want to see first! We believe the top 2 contenders are the Advanced Detection Rules (cloaking rules) and the ship form designer…but we could be wrong; let us know!
Ship Form Designer: This expansion will include everything you need to emulate any starship and give them the stats, systems, and weapons you choose. It will include weapons and system stat recommendations so you don't break the game system. There will be ship form templates from StarForce, the Vallari, and the Aurelians. One important note is that this expansion is a set of guidelines; they are not rigid construction rules, so you can make any ship you want.
Command Ships: This will include rules for flagships ranging in size from Dreadnoughts and battleships down to cruisers and destroyers. This will include ship forms for command vessels, command system rules, and fleet coordination rules (optional) for those who want a challenge when commanding a fleet. These ships are vital to fleet operations and improve the effectiveness of squadrons and fleets.
Bases and Freighters: Military support units, bases, and commercial shipping are vital to each empire's economy. Destroy a fleet's logistical support, and it withers on the vine. This expansion will include support ships (Targets!), bases (more targets), and the rules for each. The rules for support ships will allow you to operate numerous non-combatant vessels so you can go after the big convoys without much bookkeeping.
Enter the Aurelians: Unseen for nearly a century, the Aurelians have returned. This expansion will add the devious Aurelians, who use stealth technology to ambush their opponents. This expansion will include the full range of Aurelian ships, rules for homing weapons and simplified cloaking device rules. The simplified cloaking device rules are for those players who want to take advantage of cloaking devices without adding the complexity of the Advanced Detection Rules.
Advanced Detection Rules: This will be a significant expansion for those who want to add an element of "fog-of-war" to their battles. It will include rules for cloaking and stealth devices, operating in degraded sensor environments (such as hunting for the enemy in a nebula), and hidden units (for setting up ambushes). This expansion won't be for everyone and won't be necessary to enjoy StarForce Commander. It is geared toward the player who enjoys the hunt as much as the battle.
